Simple and Easy Homesteading

Welcome to My World, Accidental Homesteader!

Hi, I'm Jen a fifty something wife to my amazing husband and jack of all trades, Norm. We have been married for thirty years. We met in the Air Force, then married, had three children. My childhood was spent on a small farm of about 30 acres in Southeast Ohio. We had a large garden, cows, sheep, chickens, and a pig or two. my Mom would milk the cow to make ice cream. Grinding the wheat was the first step to a loaf of bread. Spinning, weaving, and sewing are also skills my Mom taught me. Our first ten years of marriage we lived all over including the west, mid west, and west coast.

The last twenty years we have resided in Eastern California on the reservation my husband's family is historically from. My children became involved in 4-H. I found myself using the heritage skills that were ingrained in me from my childhood. I enjoy gardening from seed to harvest, food preservation, baking sourdough bread, cooking meals from scratch with ingredients that I grow and chicken keeping for eggs and meat. We are looking forward to adding rabbits and goats to our homestead in the next year or so.

I look forward to sharing my journey with you as I learn, grow, and show others how they can learn homestead skills the simple and easy way. I plan to focus on sourdough and gardening and move to other skills as the seasons change. Make sure you check out my Instagram @accidentalhomesteader and YouTube accidental homesteader.
